New Scientist
The New Scientist Magazine site has a list of current 'Hot Topics' that are currently in the news. This, together with other parts of the site, provides teachers with sufficient nuggets to engage pupils.

Scientific American
The Scientific American site provides a list of three news items per day for the current month about science discoveries that are making the news. Each is linked to further information and other websites.

Nature
This website is maintained by Nature magazine and covers all aspects of science. Once again, many useful features about ground-breaking science.

Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust offers a wide range of resources that aim to boost the teaching and understanding of biomedical sciences in the UK.

Chemistry Societies network
Maintained by the RSC, this contains 'byte-size news items about chemistry in the news. It also has a number of other resources including a timeline from the Big Bang, the Human Genome Sequences and a visual periodic table.

Institute of Physics
Restricted access to much, but has a "physics in the news" section.

Institute of Biology
This has a news section which carries information on, for example, Foot and Mouth, TB and the Kyoto agreement.

Science UPD8
UPD8 aims to provide short and easy to use classroom activities based on up to the minute science in the news and popular culture – keeping teachers and pupils up to date.

BEEP - Bio-ethics Education Project
It is an interactive website and virtual learning environment for secondary school science teachers and their students. It is a teaching resource developed to highlight the moral, ethical, social, economic, environmental and technological implications and applications of biology.

Science Enhancement Programme
SEP was set up in 1998, by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, to develop innovative, low cost resources to enhance secondary science education, and provide support for science teachers at all stages of their career.
