Bristol Arts and Music Service
BAMS are the Bristol City Council team responsible for providing arts and music tuition and advice to Bristol schools. This site will give schools and parents all the information they need to start or develop arts and music provision. There is also information about out of school Music Centres, and a Diary of upcoming BAMS events.

@school, Key Stages 1 & 2 aims to make it easy for schools (teachers and children) to explore the web for music resources and ideas suitable for use at Key Stages 1 & 2. To access the resources on this you have to subscribe.

BBC Radio 3: Musical games website
This website is great for teachers to use in the classroom with their pupils. It offers a range of music games and composing programs, including opportunities to compose, mix and edit tracks and send them off to the BBC directly. Suitable for children at KS2 upwards.

An easy to navigate site that provides information and sound examples of instruments, ideas for teaching traditional notation, information on musical styles and links to other music education sites (American).

This is a site offering lesson plans, worksheets and resources for music along with parent/teacher specific information.

Kids Space - Hop Pop Town
To encourage children to improvise musical sequences, one of the vital factors for young children to enjoy music. A child-friendly interface that invites their confidence and further motivation.
Young children can enhance their imagination by combining sound with pictures. Writing pages that take material from musical games and help children use multiple media to express themselves.

This website has a magazine type approach to the music curriculum, with articles on the latest research and issues in music education. Teacher notes and features are available as downloadable resources.

Music Education Council
This is the website for The Music Education Council which is the 'umbrella' body for all organisations connected with music education in the UK.

Netrover
Loads of great musical activities: creating a recording studio, sequencing sounds, singing along to songs, play along with a band, compose your own music.

NGFL Primary Resources
Lesson plans, worksheets and activities for Primary phase teachers who want to access music ideas. Mini posters for the musical elements containing key musical vocabulary are available to print off for use within your classroom. The site also contains some good ideas for Early Years practitioners, but you will need to search for these as the site is not categorised into age related sections. A site well worth a visit for some downloadable and printable resources.

National Curriculum on-line
This site will navigate you around all the curriculum related sites including information on curriculum requirements for music, schemes of work and OFSTED's review of subjects within the Primary Phase.

A fantastic musical resource for children and teachers. Lots of information, things to listen to, fun activities to do..a real gem of a website.

Two Candles Burn
This site could be of interest to teachers wanting to use Jewish songs as part of a multicultural approach within their music teaching. It could also be used to link to the teaching of Judaism within RE.

Teaching Ideas - Music
This site gives access to a range of activities that range from simple rhythm and beat work to ideas for using graphic notation.

Websites for Music Technology

BECTA
A huge site that contains many and varied aspects of the application of ICT within Teaching and Learning. You navigate the site by key stage, phase, subject area and aspect, eg: 'teaching in classrooms'. This is very useful site for gaining access and links to other music education related sites.

Expressive Software Products
This is the site of the company that produce a range of software products for use in the Primary Phase including the new 'Compose World Junior' series.

The Virtual Javanese Gamelan
i music is an exciting concept aimed at widening access to musical excellence through the production of revolutionary interactive learning materials. These materials will offer a full ‘hands on’ practical exploration of an aspect of music from a computer workstation, integrating performance, composition and aural perception. Through a ‘virtual’ environment, it offers a full course of study focussed on one of the most joyful forms of Javanese music – the Lancaran.
Play Saron, Bonang Panerus or Kempul & Gongs in a full performance of Kebogiro (Crazy Water Buffalo) using real Gamelan sounds controlled from your own computer keyboard. Compose your own Lancaran and export it as an audio file. Find out about Indonesia and its music and see how the real Gamelan is played.
