Background
All schools are required to maintain a Pay Policy which clarifies how they will apply the discretion afforded to them under the terms and conditions of employment that apply to school staff.
A revised Policy has been produced for schools to adopt. There have been few changes to the School Teachers Pay and Conditions 2007 and consequently there are minimal changes to the Teachers’ Section of the Policy. Following revisions in corporate policy there have been some changes to the Support Staff section. For easy identification the main amendments / clarifications are shown in red
The Education (School Teacher Performance Management) (England) Regulations are in force from 1 September 2007 but the revised performance management arrangements introduced by the regulations will only affect pay decisions implemented after 31 August 2008, so it is not necessary to amend the Pay Policy in light of the new arrangements until 1 September 2008.
Actions required by the School
- Add the school’s name to the policy document (an electronic copy of the model policy document is provided for this purpose).
- Ensure that responsibilities for pay matters are properly delegated and actioned by a committee of the Governing Body. The name of the committee should be inserted at paragraph 1.6.
- To ensure the school’s staffing structure at Annex 1 of the document is up to date.
- To approve the Policy at a full governing body meeting (the date when it was formally adopted should be inserted at Paragraph 39).
