Clerking the Governing Body

The role of the clerk

The clerk is the official channel of communication to and from the governing body. The clerk convenes meetings, takes and distributes governing body meeting minutes, maintains attendance records, offers procedural advice and guidance during and between meetings and follow up action as required.

Keeping us up to date

The clerk is also a facilitator, who ensures that all members of the governing body are properly informed and are able to play a full part in the work of the governing body.

It is important that clerks notify us as soon as possible when governors are appointed, resign or change address. Please do not rely on us picking up governor changes from the copies of the minutes that you send us. Forms are available (see links) for this purpose.
