Bristol LA has developed a specific strategy to improve the education of refugees and asylum seekers in partnership with community groups and other agencies. This complements the work of BRIAF (Bristol Refugee Inter-Agency Forum) and BASRIG (Bristol Asylum Seeker and Refugee Integration Group.)
Within CYPS we have established a new Induction and Assessment Team which is part of the Ethnic Minority Achievement Service. The Team is funded for two years by Neighbourhood Renewal and provides two week courses for newly arrived pupils with English as an Additional Language. These are held at the Woodward Community Resource Centre and provide advice and support to schools and induction, assessment and teaching and learning for newly arrived pupils.
