Education of Children Looked After Service (ECLAS)

ECLAS works in school and out of school to support children looked after, raise achievement, promote attendance and lower exclusions. The multi-professional team consists of teachers, learning mentors and a Connexions personal advisor and works with a wide range of other support staff within a 'virtual school' model. ECLAS offers teaching support to individual children and young people and plays an important role in raising the profile of this group with all other agencies.

How does ECLAS work?

All children looked after must have a PEP. ECLAS team members attend some of these meetings. Direct teaching support, in liaison with class teachers, is provided where appropriate. This can be via ECLAS teachers and / or the Personal Education Allowance (see link to the left) and / or One to one tuition (see link to the left).

Secondary age pupils in Bristol and ex-Avon schools are monitored through a system of Area Secondary Lead Officers (ASLOs) and again direct teaching support is provided where it is felt this would be of benefit. More information on the role of the ASLO and the names of team members and their schools can be found with the ECLAS Team (see link to the left).

The progress of children and young people placed outside of Bristol is also monitored and supported.
