Ashley Down Junior School - Proposed expansion and change of age range
Following consultation and consideration of a post-consultation report, the City Council has decided to publish a statutory proposal to expand Ashley Down Junior School on the site adjacent to the city of Bristol College in Ashley Down and to change the age range to become a 4-11 age primary school. Two Mile Hill Infant and Junior Schools - Proposed amalgamation
Consultation took place on the proposed amalgamation of Two Mile Hill Infant and Junior Schools from 1 September 2010. Details of the proposal can be found in the consultation document to the left of this page. A report summarising the consultation responses is also available on the link, together with the statutory notice relating to this proposal. The statutory representation period will last from 25 November 2009 for nine weeks.
Stockwood Green Primary School - Proposed closure
Consultation has taken place on the proposed closure of Stockwood Green Primary School from 31 August 2010. Details of the proposal can be found in the consultation document to the left of this page. Statutory notices regarding this proposal are due to be published shortly.
The following pairs of infant and junior schools amalgamated to form new primary schools on 1 September 2009:
Air Balloon Hill Infant and Junior Schools became Air Balloon Hill Primary School
Victoria Park Infant and Junior Schools became Victoria Park Primary School
Sea Mills Infant and Junior Schools became Sea Mills Primary School
Highridge Infant School & Bishopsworth CE VC Junior School became St Peter's Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School
Weston Park Primary School and Bluebell Valley Nursery School will amalgamate to form a new primary school on 1 September 2010. The two schools are already working together in a federation.
Feasibility work is taking place on the establishment of a primary school on the Ashley Down college site.
Secondary Schools
Cotham, St Mary Redcliffe, St Bedes, St Bernadette and Ashton Park secondary schools are currently being refurbished as part of BSF wave 4 and Florence Brown Special School is being rebuilt.
Bristol Metropolitan College - The college closed on 31 August 2009 in order for Bristol Metropolitan Academy to open 1 September 2009.
Five new Academies opened in Bristol on 1 September 2008.
- Oasis Academy, Brightstowe, to replace Portway Community College
- Oasis Academy, Bristol, to replace Hengrove Community Arts College
- Merchants' Academy Withywood, to replace Withywood Community School
- Colston's Girls School
- Bristol Cathedral Choir School
Brislington Enterprise College opened in its new building in September 2008, as part of the BSF programme.
The Bridge Learning Campus, which will deliver an innovative approach to all-through education provision in South Bristol, opened in new buildings in January 2009. New Fosseway Special School moved into their new buildings on the Campus in September 2009.
The Bristol Metropolitan College (formerly Whitefield Fishponds School) opened its new buildings, delivered under the national Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, on 21 April 2008.
The Bristol Brunel Academy was officially opened by Prime Minister Gordon Brown in September 2007 and was the first school in the UK to be redeveloped and reopened under the BSF programme.
The new Redland Green School building opened to pupils in September 2007. Located in Redland Court Road, the building will eventually accommodate 945 11-16 year-olds together with 450 places for post-16. It is also home to the secondary department of Claremont School, offering 50 places for pupils with physical impairment, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties.
The new Fairfield High School building opened in April 2006 at Allfoxton Road. The school provides 1080 places for 11-16 year-olds, together with inclusive provision for 40 deaf and hearing impaired pupils.
The first phase of PFI school rebuilds, Bedminster Down, Henbury, Monks Park and Portway opened in 2005/6.
Special Educational Needs
Brislington Enterprise College – It has been agreed to make the following changes:
- To establish autistic provision at Brislington Enterprise College from September 2008.
- To change the management of the physically impaired provision (Courtlands Unit), to be established on the site of Brislington Enterprise College, from Florence Brown Community School to Brislington Enterprise College from September 2009.
