Bristol Challenge

The downloadable leaflets summarise the main elements of Bristol’s strategy for transforming educational provision and outcomes in the city. The strategy has been jointly developed by headteachers and officers.

The strategy uses the image of a ‘jigsaw’ to depict the interdependency of the six key elements:

  • Neighbourhood Focus
  • Inclusion and Integrated Services
  • Personalising Learning
  • Early Years and Foundation/21 st century schools (Primary/Secondary)
  • Diversity and Collaboration/Specialism, Diversity and Collaboration (Primary/Secondary)
  • Leadership and Accountability.

This strategy has been developed and can only be delivered through partnership – all of the players in Bristol’s education community working together: teachers, headteachers, governors, the local authority, business partners, and parents.

The ‘jigsaw’ stresses the interdependency of the six elements. Only through all elements working together will we secure transformation.

This is already a strategy which is shaping practice (e.g. in-school support and intervention teams; Leadership Development; Extended School Partnerships). Future developments will be referenced to, and guided by this strategy.

The Challenge Strategy applies to early years, primary, secondary, and special provision. There are some differences of emphasis between phases but the underpinning elements are common.

The underpinning detail of the strategy will be further developed with reference to the Children and Young People’s Plan for the city.
