Vision and Outcomes
All children and young people attend school, enjoy their learning and achieve success. They are confident, curious and resilient learners, with high aspirations and ambition. They are known as individuals, inspired by their teachers and experience success throughout their school years. Children and young people communicate well, enjoy positive relationships and are confident readers. They know what progress they have made, and what they need to do to progress to the next level in their learning. They can access resources to support their learning any time, anywhere. All young people leave school with the skills, qualifications and self-esteem they need to continue in learning and to be successful in the world of work.
All schools and settings have the confidence of all the communities they serve, offering high quality provision and a personalised learning experience for every child. Teachers, governors and all staff have high expectations of every child. They work together and with other agencies to remove any barriers to learning for individual students or groups, ensuring that every child and young person remains positively engaged in learning and achieves their potential.
Improvement Priorities for 2007/08
- Raise standards of attainment in Key Stages 1 & 2
- Raise standards of attainment in Key Stages 3 & 4
- Raise standards of attainment 14-19
- Secure improvement in the performance of under-achieving and vulnerable groups, including BME pupils and groups
- Improve outcomes for children with special educational needs, and ensure that statements of educational need are issued within recommended timescales
- Improve the quality of teaching and pupil tracking
- Improve attendance in primary and secondary schools
- Maximise inclusion, reducing the number of permanent and fixed term exclusions
- Strengthen leadership & governance in schools and settings
- Develop strategic partnerships with outside bodies and agencies to accelerate progress in raising attainment, including transforming Bristol’s school facilities and learning environments
