The LA, usually through the Executive Member for Executive Member for Education and Children's Planning, sets the broad policy and direction of the education service for the city, and determines the basis on which the service will play its part in pursuing the council's overall goals. (Some major policy decisions are referred to Cabinet or the full council.)
