Children & Young People's Plan 2006-2009

We are pleased to draw your attention to Bristol's first Children and Young People's Plan. This is the single, overarching strategic plan for all those services in Bristol which affect the lives of children and young people. The plan sets out the outcomes we wish to see for the 95,000 children and young people in our city. Our vision is the best possible outcomes for children and young people across the five Every Child Matters outcomes.

The Plan was approved by Council on 12th September. A children and young people's version of the plan is being prepared by a group of young people, and there will be an executive summary to follow.

We would like to thank the many contributors to the plan from the private, voluntary community and public sectors.

Summary by Heather Tomlinson, Director of Children & Young People's Services

There is a statutory requirement on local authorities to produce a Children and Young People’s Plan. This Plan explains how services to children and young people in Bristol aged 0-19 are going to change and improve over the next three years. In particular it describes the challenges facing Bristol, how we will respond to the challenges and what outcomes will be achieved as a result. The Plan is based on a comprehensive analysis of need resulting from extensive consultation with children, young people, their families and carers, and organisations across the city. It also reflects government legislation and guidance, other major city-wide plans and the recommendations from recent reviews e.g. Joint Area Review.

The Children & Young People's Plan 2006-09 has been updated recently to include recent performance information, amended strategic objectives and implementation plans. For further information on this update please follow the link on the left Children & Young People's Plan Update 2007-2008.
