There are a number of schemes available to help parents/carers with the cost of childcare.
Childcare Tax Credits is a payment to support those families who are responsible for children, and 16 to 18 year olds in full time education (up to and including ‘A’ levels, NVQ level 3 or equivalent)
Working Tax Credits support working people (employed or self-employed) on low incomes by topping up earnings. It has several elements with the amount based on your circumstances. There are extra amounts for:
- Working at least 30 hours a week
- Working people who have a disability
- The costs of registered or approved childcare, known as the childcare element
Bristol City Council offers a Childcare Voucher Scheme for employees. Other employers may offer a similar scheme and it may be worth asking your employer if they have such a scheme in place. For further information contact CYPIS. Tel no. 0845 129 7217
If you are under 20 the Care To Learn scheme may be able to help.
If you are returning to work you may be able to benefit from the New Deal for Lone Parents.
The Nursery Education Grant helps towards the costs for your 3-4 year old.
