Deciding which secondary school you would prefer your child to attend is a very important decision and the system can be confusing. It is good practice to start considering which secondary school you would like for your child during Year 5 as you will need to have chosen and apply for a place in a secondary school by October of Year 6.
The Choice Adviser can offer parents information and advice to ensure they have a full understanding of the admissions process and transfer to secondary school including:
- How the admissions process works
- Information about schools
- Admission policies and criteria for different schools
- Equal preference
- Travel issues
- Appeals. If you do not get the school you want the Choice Adviser can guide you through the Appeals process and help you to construct a case for Appeal
The Choice Adviser, Denise Tovey, will hold information sessions at primary schools during the summer term. This is a session to explain all about the application process and how to make the best use of your preferences. There is also a question and answer time for specific questions or to clarify and dispel myths about applications.
If you would like this information session at your school please inform your head teacher or Governors and ask them to contact the Choice Adviser.
